Milwaukee River History Tour w/ the Milwaukee County Historical Society

August 16, 2019, 8:30 am-12:00 pm

Milwaukee or “gathering place by the water*” was built on a Great Lake and the Milwaukee Harbor welcomes vessels and other boaters to our great city. As they enter our Harbor, boaters have the option of exploring the KK River (south), the Menomonee River (west) and the Milwaukee River which winds through Downtown Milwaukee. The Milwaukee River extends many miles north with a history that extends far beyond. We’re excited to share this history with you as we explore the Milwaukee River through Downtown Milwaukee.

Steve Schaffer, assistant archivist at the Milwaukee County Historical Society, will guide us through Downtown Milwaukee as we explore the Milwaukee River, its history, the famous names, buildings and bridges that made Milwaukee, MILWAUKEE. Staff from MKC will be paddling with the group as well.

What to Expect:
We will paddle as a group. We will launch together, paddle upriver through downtown as time permits and then turn around and exit our kayaks at the Milwaukee County Historical Society located in Pere Marquette Park for a short break. We will enjoy healthy snacks and beverages on our break while touring the Historical Society and viewing photos from the past. After our break, we will return to our kayaks and paddle back to Milwaukee Kayak Company. Milwaukee Kayak Company will provide guides and will assist all kayakers when exiting and entering kayaks from the dock at Pere Marquette Park.

• Cost: $35 per person; $20 will be donated back to the Milwaukee County Historical Society (MCHS)*
